The temple of the Emerald Buddha (วัดพระแก้ว)

The temple of the Emerald Buddha (วัดพระแก้ว)
It is not know for sure when the Emerald Buddha was carved however judging from the appearance and style one could conclude it was carved in Northern Thailand not much earlier than the fifteenth century. On the other hand, the Emerald Buddha, which is in an attitude of meditation, looks much like some of the Buddha images of Southern India and Sri Lanka. This attitude of meditation has never been popular in other Thai carvings of Buddha images so one might assign the origin to one of the aforementioned countries.

According to reliable chronicles, lightning struck a Chedi in Chiangrai province of Northern Thailand in 1434 A.D.and a Buddha statue made of stucco was found inside. The abbot of the temple noticed that the stucco on the nose had flaked off and the image inside was a green color. He then removed the stucco covering and found the Emerald Buddha which is in reality made of green jade.

At that time the town of Chiangrai was under the rule of the King of Chiangmai, King Samfangkaen, as people flocked to view and worship this beautiful Buddha image. The King then decided to move the image to Chiangmai. He sent out an elephant three times to bring the Emerald Buddha to Chiangmai but each time the elephant ran to the city of Lampang instead of returning to Chiangmai. The King thought that the spirits guarding the Emerald Buddha wanted to stay in Lampang so it was allowed to remain there until 1468. Then the new King, King Tiloka, had the Emerald Buddha brought to Chiangmai. According to Chronicles the image was installed in the eastern niche of a large stupa at Wat Chedi Luang.

The King of Chiangmai in the mid 16th century had no sons. His daughter was married to the King of Laos and born one son named prince Chaichettha. After the King died in 1551 the prince, at the age of fifteen, was invited to become the King of Chiangmai. However when his father died, the King of Laos, King Chaichettha wanted to return to his own country. In 1552 he returned to Luang Prabang, then the capital of Laos, and took the Emerald Buddha with him. He promised the ministers he would return to Chiangmai but he never did nor did he send back the Emerald Buddha. In 1564 King Chaichettha was chased out of Luang Prabang by the Burmese army of King Bayinnaung and took the Emerald Buddha with him to his new capital of Vientiane. The Emerald Buddha remained there for 214 years.

When King Rama I was still a general during the Thonburi period in 1778 he captured the town of Vientiane and brought the Emerald Buddha back to Thailand. With the establishment of Bangkok as the capital, beginning the Rattanakosin period and the Chakri Dynasty, the Emerald Buddha became the palladium of Thailand and has been here ever since. On the 22nd of March 1784 the image was moved from Thonburi to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Two seasonal costumes were made for the Emerald Buddha by King Rama I, one for the summer season and one for the rainy season. King Rama III (1824-1851) had another costume made for the winter season. The ceremonial changing of the costumes takes place three time a year and is done by his Majesty the King.

Pad Thai (Thai Style Noodle Stir-Fry)

Prepare:
14 big shrimps (peeled, de-veined and cooked)
2 handful thin noodle
3/4 cup cut yellow tofu
3 tbsp. good quality dried shrimp
1/4 cup salted radish (minced)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 tsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. water
1/4 cup a garlic-like vegetable of the genus Allium (cut 1 inch)
2 duck's eggs
1 cup bean sprouts
1 tbsp. sliced red onion
1 tbsp. minced garlic
1 tsp. dried red chili powder
2 tbsp. roasted peanut (crushed)
1 tsp. sugar
Pad Thai Sauce:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 tbsp. minced red onion
3 tbsp. minced garlic
1/2 cup palm sugar
1/3 cup good quality fish sauce
1/2 cup concentrated tamarind juice

Cooking Instructions:
1. Heat the pan and add vegetable oil. When the pan is hot, add 3 tbsp. minced red onion and 3 tbsp. minced garlic. Fry until it turns gold. Be careful, it will be bitter if you put max heat and burn it.

2. Add palm sugar, fish sauce, concentrated tamarind juice. Boil until it gets thick.

3. Remove from the stove.Next, we will cook the noodle.

1. In a different pan, heat the pan and add vegetable oil. When the pan is hot, add red 1 tbsp. sliced onion and garlic. Fry until it has aromatic smell.

2. Add tofu, salted radish and dried shrimps.

3. Now, add noodle and water. Mix well then add vinegar.

4. Pour pad Thai sauce we prepare from before. Add as much as you like. Make sure you don't add too much because the noodle will be too wet and overcook.

5. Then, make a quick stir. If you like bean sprouts and the genus Allium to be cooked, add it in this step.

6. Turn off the fire. Arrange the noodle on a plate. Put dried chili pepper, sugar, roasted peanut, fresh bean sprouts and the genus Allium on a side.

Oy!!!! I forgot to add shrimps!!

You can put them after any step above, because it was already cooked. I'll put them like a pyramid on top of my Pad Thai. Another option for Pad Thai, make an omelet from duck's eggs. Make it as thin and as big as possible. Put the noodle in the middle of the omelet. Fold four sides then put another plate on top. Turn it upside down. Decorate it with bean sprouts, the genus Allium or scallion, dried chili powder, sugar, peanut, and one piece of lemon.

Iphone

iphone from Apple are available in MBK center and retail shop in Central world. But the price are so much different for 8 GB iphone. In MBK 18,500 -24,500 Bath and 29,500 Bath in official retail shop.

Music on iphone
iPhone the best iPod that Apple has ever made. I agree, unless you want to carry a music library larger than either the 4- or 8-gigabyte iPhone can hold (800 and 1,800 songs or so, respectively, depending on the other content on the device). There's no memory slot for adding storage.

Much as I like the famous scroll wheel on regular iPods, you won't miss it here. (There's not even a virtual version.) Tapping various icons to access iPod playlists, artists, songs, albums, audiobooks, podcasts and so on is a breeze. Album art looks terrific on the big display.

Internet on iphone
IPhone runs Apple's Safari browser. You can view full Web pages, then double-tap the screen to zoom in. Or pinch to make text larger. Sliding your finger moves the page around. Rotating iPhone lets you view a page widescreen. IPhone syncs bookmarks off a PC or Mac.

VDO and Youtube on iphone
You can watch movies, music videos, podcasts and TV shows synced through iTunes. When watching, tap once to bring up onscreen controls and double-tap to toggle between widescreen and full-screen modes. Movies and videos play in landscape mode. For now, no other iPod does widescreen.

IPhone provides a wireless connection to YouTube. You can watch the most-viewed streaming videos and search for others. More than 10,000 videos will be available at launch; YouTube expects to encode the full catalog into a format iPhone can recognize by fall. You can easily share YouTube links by e-mail.

Picture on iphone
Pictures look fabulous on iPhone. The device syncs images stored on iPhoto software on the Mac or a designated picture folder on a Windows PC.

iphone battery
Apple recently raised iPhone battery estimates to up to eight hours of talk time, six hours of Internet use, seven hours of video playback, 24 hours of audio playback and more than 10 days of standby. Your actual mileage will vary, of course.

Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok

Landing to Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok in the evening and this is the most biggest in Southeast Asia. Named 'Suvarnabhumi' (meaning 'Golden Land') by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, the development of Suvarnabhumi Airport as the aviation hub of the region is of strategic importance to Thailand's future and is a priority on the 'national agenda'.

The official opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's new international airport, on 28 September 2006, gives new impetus to the country's quest to make Bangkok and Thailand the aviation hub of the region.

During the initial phase of operation, the north section of the airport will accommodate 45 million passengers per year, 76 flights per hour and 3 million tons of cargo handling per year. After the final phase, this will rise to 100 million passengers a year.

At 563,000 square metres, the passenger terminal is currently the largest in the world. The airport also features the world's longest runway, 75.3 metres by 4,000 metres long and the world's tallest control tower, 132.2 metres high, providing the best visual coverage of overall airside.

To facilitate smooth air traffic control, the air traffic control centre is fully equipped with state-of-the-art aircraft navigation and guiding systems and is one of the most advanced facilities in modern aviation. It has the capacity to manage approximately 76 flights per hour.

When in full operation, the airport will help boost Thailand's economic, social, communication, and tourism development, and advance the government policy of making Thailand an aviation hub in Southeast Asia.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is located at Km. 15 (15th kilometre milestone) on the east-bound Bangna-Trat Highway in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province, east of Bangkok. The airport is approximately 25 kms from the Bangkok metropolis.

As of 28 September 2006, Suvarnabhumi Airport replaces Don Muang airport as Bangkok's primary airport for all commercial airline flights.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is operated by The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). In addition to the new Bangkok international airport, AOT operates four other international airports in Thailand – Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket and Chiang Rai.

Bangkok Airways

I have using often for Bangkok Airways service and here are some background for Bangkok Airways company.

Background

Bangkok Airways first began air transportation services in 1968—established as “Sahakol Air”, it became the first private aviation company in Thailand. Initially, the airline provided charter services by means of its first operational aircraft, “Trade Wind”, a two-engine 9-seater plane. Regular charter assignments came from the OICC (an American construction company), USOM, and a number of other organizations, which at the time, were engaging in oil and natural gas exploration in the Gulf of Thailand.

Due to the rapid growth of tourism and business investments in Thailand, air transportation has become an increasingly important aspect contributing to both the Kingdom’s economic growth and its infrastructure development into becoming a major destination capable of hosting several million overseas visitors per year.

In order to fulfill the increasing demands for air transportation, Bangkok Airways officially began its operations in 1986 as the country’s first privately-owned domestic airline; initially offering scheduled flights from Bangkok to Krabi, Korat, and Surin. Presently, Bangkok Airways has obtained permits to operate scheduled flights in 20 different major routes—covering nearly all major resort destinations in Thailand. Additionally, the airline has also obtained permits to fly internationally to Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, China, and Japan.

Bangkok Airways has also invested in building and maintaining its own privately-operated airports at Samui, Sukhothai, and Trat. These developments

Business Trip to Samui Island

Last Saturday I went to Samui Island for my business trip as usual, Samui island is Thailand's third largest island, and its neighbour Ko Pha-ngan a celebrated island that hosts the biggest beach full moon party. North of Ko Pha-ngan is Ko Tao, renowned for its excellent coral reefs.
To top it all is the dazzling 250-square-kilometer Ang Thong Marine National Park, where a stunning archipelago awaits to greet visitors with their charming palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear water and colorful coral reefs. The best time to enjoy one of these islands to the fullest is from April to November.

You can go to Samui by Bangkok Airways daily flights (One day more than 6 flights and in high season over 10 flights per day) or by ferry from Surathani to Samui island but it's take time, if you have time enough using ferry that also one choice for view Samui from sea.

After landing from Samui airport, driver from resort was waiting me as the gate of airport and bring my bag to the car and out from airport. The wather was not bad like last week, may be today is loy Krathong day :P from airport to resort take 45 miniute by car and here is my palace..yeah..

Doing and check some paper work after that call to restaurant for order some food for my lunch "Pard Ka pao Kung" haha :P don't know what should I order better order no brain menu :P but it's also yummyyyyy... Now I am full so take a walk to the beach... some tourist reading a book, some are swimming sound look they are very relax for holiday..that cool...

In our Shan state we don't have the ocean, only around us are blue montains like in here blue sea around me for now...I may lucky from one of million from Shan state who can play sea water as much I can but I wish all of my nation brother and sister to be here like a free birds do what every their need without fear...Hope some day can be happen..T__T ..Back to my room and meeting with staff, meeting with supplier, meeting with GM until evening..huh..I hate meeting ...call to Big boss (Mum) Mum said Mum will out to temple. In Shan today is special day for us as well, we will have fire work show, fire ball and many things for fun..when I was kid I like it very much..wishing I am in there with Mum.. Oh..some staff call me for Loy Krathong..

A festival of quiet celebration, the origins of Loy Kratong are unclear, but it is believed that it started in Sukhothai, (north of Bangkok) one of the most powerful cities in Asia, around 800 years ago.
Made from the cellulose trunk of a banana tree, the idea behind the kratongs is to put all your misfortunes in a boat, and allow them to literally float away. ("Loy"- to float, and "krathong" - a leaf cup or bowl) Great care is taken to decorate the kratongs with flowers and banana leaves, leaving room for the candles and 3 sticks of incense. Loy Krathong always falls on Thai school holidays, so during the day the whole family are often involved in making elaborately decorated Kratongs. Some coins, a lock of hair, or nail clipping are placed inside to represent the owner before the kratong is launched on a river, canal, or the sea, accompanied by a prayer.

It's believed the "boat" will carry your bad luck into the distance, and enable a better start to the following year. Loy Kratong is a big night for lovers. Couples who make a wish together on this day will enjoy long-lasting love, especially if their kratongs remain together on the water.

While Loy Kratong is not strictly a religious festival, some Thais believe that it pays homage to the water goddess, Mae Khongkha. Whatever the significance, it's a magical "not-to-be-missed" event.
